The Last Chance
A hundred years without humans. The plants covered up whole cities. There is not even a single building that is fully intact. Most of the man-made things disappeared under plants, just like the people once disappeared. It is quiet. No cars, no yelling and no fighting.
Mother Earth had enough. She gave the humans 2036 chances. Each human. Every single year a new chance. She thought they would change. There was no 2037th chance. It was the first Sylvester without fireworks since she could remember. Mother Earth welcomed the peace. The humans knew the consequences, she had warned them uncountable times. Simple choices just to survive. Humans on the other hand are selfish. Humans want more than just surviving. They had to go. Now everything seems to be better.
But Mother Earth got a new feeling. It was creeping up to her. She never had this feeling before. She got bored, humanlike. Did she make the wrong choice?

Laura, I agree with Lotchie. This is a great reminder to be mindful of our own tendencies to be selfish and destructive. This is a great story.
