Ten plays … each ten minutes long … ten playwrights … ten actors … nine directors …
To this exciting mix, add nine young composers, ranging in age from 13 – 25.
Pure magic – and a wonderful evening of entertainment!

Harmonia Composition Studio is delighted to be partnering with the producers of the 2021 NC 10by10 Play Festival, presented by OdysseyStage.  This partnership has resulted in nine original pieces of music written by Harmonia students.  We hope you will all attend the Festival at the Carrboro Arts Center, or perhaps watch an online presentation.  In the meantime, enjoy the nine new pieces below!

Heartfelt thanks to producers John Paul Middlesworth and Charles Machalicky for making this partnership possible.

Hello, Julie. I really enjoyed that music teaser. Thanks for a free treat to us by sharing it here. I want to watch the presentation online. If you allow, can I find out the link?

Alex, really liked the card fx on Game of Chance–would like to hear more of those sounds in the piece.

Graham, your harmonies are gorgeous and I love the use of the piano in its high and low extremities–like a blanket wrapped around the strings. Reminds me a bit of Britell’s Moonlight score.

Ori, keep writing for banjo.

Legendary Battle – I liked that cool whole tone stuff.

BETHANY. So cool to hear how your music’s come along. That’s some sophisticated textural writing. Love the low-note theme during the fade-out. Is that you on piano?

Thank you so much, Noah! Yes indeed, I’m the performer – I always enjoy bringing my own pieces to life and actively creating a soundscape of textures and colors. I likewise enjoyed your musical contribution – the drama, suspense, and urgency are quite captivating, and I imagine that it compellingly captures the character of the corresponding narrative. It’s wonderful to encounter you again – I hope all’s going well for you!

Thank you so much for sharing all this music! The narrative-suggesting music combined with the tantalizing titles certainly arouse the listener’s curiosity. I enjoyed the mesmerizing tranquility of the solo piano in “Digging Out”, the grandeur (yet perhaps with some underlying unrest) in “Game of Chance”, and the reflective and somewhat wistful quality of “Old Man”, to give a few examples. How exciting that you’ve been able to conduct this project; thank you again for sharing these musical vignettes!

Sharing a Post

Why do my friends need to SignIn to read the post I shared?

Actually, this is a voting security feature. Only club members can read posts submitted into a contest. Since anyone reading the story is able to vote (click the Like button), we reserve these capabilities to members who SignIn. Before we implemented this security feature, people were voting multiple times and making the public voting process unfair and out of balance. To fix this, our staff finally decided to allow only members who SignIn to read the stories. Membership is free and easy, and ensures our club is safe, secure, and family-friendly!

Gems Stories are public:  On the other hand the Gem stories are different, since there is no voting on Gems. During a Gem event, your friends and fans can come on and read without a SignIn. This is one of the great advantages of the Gem events.
