Meow! Hsssss! You think that you are watching Tom and Jerry, but you are actually watching the cat chasing the mouse in the piano piece “The Cat and the Mouse ”. You listen to lively notes and many crescendos and diminuendos.
The Cat and the Mouse by Aaron Copland is a challenging piece for me because of its rhythm, repetition, and many dynamics. I am working on the challenges by counting out loud, in my head, and mouthing it. I also use momentum for the very loud part of the piece and listen to what I am playing.
This piece is a very interesting and fun piece to learn because there are many different sections that sound very different. Another reason why this piece is very fun to learn is because of the ways I practiced that I had never tried before. One of these ways is using animal words to substitute for different rhythms. I hope you enjoy listening to my piece and imagine a cat chasing a mouse.
