The Final Wish
“I can’t stand noisy crowds!” Cordelia yelled at the Genie, “I wish I had something that stops time for everyone except me.”
“Really?” he asked. “You do remember, this is your final wish?”
“Of course I do.” Cordelia tutted, anger only abating as a gold chain and pendant settled heavily around her neck. “So, what do I do?”
“Hold the pendant and shout ‘stop’.”
Cordelia did, rejoicing at the sudden silence. “And how do I make time restart?”
“Restart? You only said you wanted it to stop. Looks like you’re gonna be lonely.” He cackled, vanishing with a faint pop.

Thanks Fuji, not sure I’ll ever be up to J. K. Rowling’s standard. The short stories I have for sale on Amazon prove that! ? It’s nice to have a bit of fun when you’re writing though.
Genie tales always have a great twist, well done. Do you remember the song – Silence is Golden?

To Leave Comments - Please SignIn with GoogleThanks Eric. Yes, you need to remember to be very specific if you’re ever granted three wishes. Genies can be very tricksy! And yes, I remember ‘Silence is Golden’; I actually have that phrase written down in my notes from when I wrote the story! 😉
The phrase ‘be careful what you wish for’ comes to mind Carrie. A fun filled story.
Thanks Linda, personally I think she got what she deserved ?, but yes, people should be mindful of that phrase before making their wishes

Thanks Lotchie. At least no-one has to suffer her terrible temper anymore 😉
Yes, at least.

To Leave Comments - Please SignIn with GoogleA fun read, Carrie! Could it be that someone, being irritated with too many people and too much noise around, asked a genie for loneliness and quietness? And then the wish was granted with the pandemic….?
Oh, that would be a very dark tale, Christer. I prefer that Cordelia got her just deserts. I think that Genie tricked her in more than one way. I think that he gave the illusion that everyone else was frozen in time, but he’d actually frozen her. I don’t think he liked her very much!
Carrie, at first I thought the Genie was rather mean, but then when I thought about it decided maybe not. Cordelia sounds like a piece of work and she probably worked on his last nerve, considering she was quite happy with the idea to stop everyone else, except her, in their tracks! It sounds like a well-deserved outcome for her. I enjoyed this.

Genies generally have a very lonely existence, with very little entertainment. I’m sure when the opportunity arises and they need to grant three wishes, they do try and have some fun with it, even if it is at the cost of the person the wishes were granted to! Can’t really blame them, hey? ?
Hi Carrie, very nice story. From now on I will definitely think twice when making a wish 🙂
