Soulmate
You lay cradled in my arms, looking peaceful, yet I could feel your pain, see the anguish in your beautiful green eyes.
You were my soulmate and I couldn’t bear to say goodbye. But that was selfish; you were so very ill.
I held you as they put the needle in your leg. You didn’t even flinch, it was I who had tears pouring down my face. My green eyes fixed on yours, I saw when the last spark of life was extinguished. My heart splintered, leaving behind a cold and empty void. Part of me will forever be yours.

You’re most welcome, Carrie. I am so sad for you, but I am hoping all the best for you in the future.
You captured all the sadness of losing a loved pet beautifully, Carrie.
