Good news, her father says as he shuts the door behind him. We just got a million dollars richer. Let’s get a new pool, shall we?
Good news. It rings in her ears as she jumps into the pool, causing only a tiny splash. She tries to ignore that the money was supposed to go to the homeless. She doesn’t imagine them groaning for money, for food, for shelter, while she sits in a luxury pool, swimming in money her father will never be able to spend. She says nothing and floats.
Good news. She wonders how something so innocuous can mean something so different for another person.
