Moving House
The flooded river that runs through the crocodile farm provided the most recent water input after the storm.
“We cannot just pack up and leave,” she said.
“We’ve been watching their royal lifestyle for too long. We’re going,” he replied.
They trudged through the mud and reached the gate.
“Just our luck,” he said, “it’s locked! I’m not going anywhere until they let us in.“
“This is Ranger Lara Ironclaw. We discovered two more crocodiles waiting at the gate!”
“Weren’t they all found?”
“We must have counted wrong!”
‘Did he just wink at the female?’ puzzled the ranger.

A crocodile farm flooded and some crocodiles escaped. They did find them again, but the report said that one of the crocodiles waited at the gate to be let back in! Apparently they are very territorial and will return ‘home’, it just so happened that this one was… Read more »
I think crocodiles are wonderful – I love the story, so funny to imagine them just waiting to be let through, and love this background detail you offered us! It’s great how much we can learn through one another’s stories!
Thank you for your kind comment, Emily! I’m glad you liked the background detail. I never knew that crocodiles behaved in this way and also that they can stay under muddy water for hours if pressed to do so. I always found them fascinating, watching them laying in the same spot, mouth wide open, not moving at all. They are really wonderful, but I wouldn’t want to meet one face-to-face though … Read more »

I think they’re beautiful though. So prehistoric looking! And they really are masters of stillness aren’t they?!
How humorous that the crocodiles chose home before freedom! Being British but living in Texas, I cannot say that I have any love for alligators- their cousins. On a river cruise in Costa Rica, we saw many crocodiles just innocently sunbathing. They looked like predatory dinosaurs! Thanks for your funny and informative writing, Marianna.
Margarida, it must have been fascinating to see the crocodiles like that. I find it interesting that they can lay like that for hours, not moving an inch. I read that the reason why they keep their mouths open is to bring down their body temperature. What I find scary is that I also read that their peripheral vision allows them to see quite a wide area on the horizon. Although it… Read more »

Thank you, Linda! I appreciate your comment. The crocodiles couldn’t pass up on the opportunity that presented itself ????
Hello, Marianna. Your story is so funny. The crocodile chooses the royal lifestyle over freedom. That’s hilarious. Nice one.

Really enjoyed this story, Marianna. Loved the humour and the cheeky wink at the end when the crocodiles from the wild join those in captivity for an easier lifestyle ????
