In a poor, hierarchical country like Colombia, it is a rare thing to come from humble circumstances and be studying for a doctor’s degree in Economics. With a scholarship in Logan, Utah, Brigitte left her mother and me in August 2021. She’ll be back as a PhD in 2026.

Thanks for the comment, Carrie. Yes, we miss her, but we are also happy for her and for the fact that her dream has come true. But what a difference between now and when I was young! I went to France to study French when I was a teenager. The only way I communicated with my mother was via a few letters and postcards. Making a telephone call was too expensive and… Read more »
What a beautiful young lady Christer and what a wonderful achievement. How proud you all must be.

Patricia, her mother, has told me that since first grade in school, Brigitte was constantly the best student in her classes. For her university studies, including her master’s education, she always had scholarships. Her classmates came from wealthy families, and those schools were expensive, so there was no way she could have done it without financial help, for which, of course, excellent results were needed.… Read more »
She’s beautiful and has a very humble face, Christer. I knew she would succeed in her Ph.D. studies in the United States. Brilliant child. I know you are very proud of her and especially her mother.
I’m confident that she will succeed. She already is in the top of her class, yet very humble and down to earth. Thanks for the nice comment, Lotchie.

This is so impressive! She is brave, and her parents are. Going such distance had to be tough for everyone involved but you all must be so proud! This is certainly something worth celebrating!
Thank you, Melissa. Yes, it’s brave if her to leave her country for five years, but is a dream that she has had for many years. And who knows? She might start looking for jobs in the US after graduating and stay there.

Unfortunately she is not my daughter, Thompson. She was already 20 when I met her mother. But I care for her and try to support her as much as I can so that she will succeed. Thank you very much for your lovely comment.
Wow! I’m surprised to know she isn’t your daughter. That’s so kind of you.
